What Explayn is
A Chrome extension, apps for Mac and Windows, and a web app for iPad that send text, a file’s contents or an image you chose to a language model and show you what comes back. Explayn is free.
Answers are a model’s, not an authority’s
Language models are wrong sometimes, and confidently. Explayn explains a lease clause, a formula, a chart; it does not give legal, medical, or financial advice, and an explanation is not a substitute for someone qualified to be responsible for the answer. Check anything that matters against the source.
Free, all of it
Every part of Explayn is free, and there is nothing to pay for. Without a key of your own, Explayn answers from a shared allowance on free model providers; so that one person cannot use up what everyone is answered from, it asks you to wait a few minutes if a lot of questions come from one place at once. A free key of your own, from Google, Groq, Cerebras or OpenRouter, has no such pause.
Availability
Explayn depends on model providers it does not control. It is built to fail over between several of them and to say what went wrong instead of hanging, but no uptime is promised.
Your rights under consumer law
If you are a consumer in Australia, the Australian Consumer Law gives you guarantees that cannot be excluded, and nothing in these terms takes them away. Consumers elsewhere keep the rights their own law gives them in the same way.
Liability
Apart from those rights, Explayn is provided free and as it is. To the extent the law allows, Explayn is not liable for what comes of relying on an answer, and where the Australian Consumer Law allows it, liability is limited to supplying the service again.
Using Explayn fairly
Don’t use Explayn to break the law, to get around its limits with scripts, or to overload it. Access that does can be limited or stopped.
Changes
These terms can change; the date above moves when they do.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws in force in Australia, and the courts of Australia can hear any dispute about them.
